# EmmauOS vs the Team Ministry Spiritual Gifts Survey

> The Team Ministry Spiritual Gifts Survey, from ChurchGrowth.org, is free for an individual, 108 questions over nine gifts, and shows a bar graph of scores with the dominant gifts named; a Group Edition for churches exists, with a price not shown on the page we read; the site says millions of people have taken it. EmmauOS covers the same nine gifts in about 60 statements and 10 to 15 minutes on a phone with no account, written against the published research on self-report and short scales, shows bands with the margin drawn instead of a bar graph with a dominant gift, and sends the result to the church's follow-up list with consent, next to the serving teams that need those gifts, with Planning Center both ways on every paid plan and an AI assistant for the team. Pick Team Ministry for a long free survey with a well-known name; pick EmmauOS for a shorter test, honest results and the conversation after.

## The test itself

Both tests measure nine gifts. Team Ministry asks 108 questions, twelve per gift; EmmauOS asks about 60 statements, five per gift, scored out of 25. Twelve items per gift give a smoother score, and 108 questions take a good while; EmmauOS's wager, backed by the research on short scales, is that five well-written behavior statements separate a lead band from the rest and that people finish a 10–15 minute test on a phone. EmmauOS's statements ask what has happened in the past year rather than what a person is like, because that is what the research on self-report says people answer honestly. The papers are on [why we ask what we ask](/why-we-ask-what-we-ask).

## How results are shown

Team Ministry shows a bar graph and names the dominant gifts. EmmauOS shows bands: every gift within 3 points of the highest is in the lead band, the next within 2 points is "at the edge", and inside a band gifts sit in Romans 12 order so no ranking can be recovered. A bar graph invites reading the tallest bar as the answer; a band says "these two or three, together".

## What happens after

Team Ministry's free survey is for the individual; the Group Edition gives a church a database of results. EmmauOS's result reaches the church's follow-up list the moment it is finished, with the person's own words and consent, next to the serving teams that need those gifts; a person can send their bands to two friends who say whether they ring true. A leader logs the conversation, places the person and checks 90 days later on whether it took. Band names and the date sync to Planning Center fields you choose on every paid plan, and your teams come back the other way. An AI assistant, connected over the Model Context Protocol and scoped to a role, can work the list for the team; it never scores anyone and never contacts a member. A database holds results; a follow-up list holds what you did about them.

## Who should choose Team Ministry

- A church that wants a long, well-known free survey.
- A church that wants a group database and is content with a bar graph per person.
- A church whose teaching already uses Team Ministry's gift definitions.

## Who should choose EmmauOS

- A church that wants people to finish, on a phone, in 10 to 15 minutes, from a branded QR code.
- A church that wants a test written against the research, with the sources published.
- A church that wants results as bands with the margin drawn.
- A church that wants the result in a leader's hands the same day, with consent and serving teams, and a check on whether the placement took.
- A church that wants Planning Center both ways, an AI assistant for the team and its own subdomain.

## Switching

Create your church (free, no card), give EmmauOS your website so it offers your colors and ministries, connect Planning Center, and put the new link and QR code in the bulletin. Earlier survey scores from another tool import from a spreadsheet on every paid plan, as their own assessment beside the gifts result. Both tests score the same nine gifts, so a church's teaching stays the same.

## Questions people ask

### Do Team Ministry and EmmauOS measure the same nine gifts?

Both score nine gifts. EmmauOS's nine are the seven in Romans 12 plus administration and hospitality. Team Ministry's page names nine as well; a church should check its own list against the one it teaches.

### Which is longer?

Team Ministry is 108 questions. EmmauOS is about 60 statements and takes 10 to 15 minutes, with no account to create.

### Is the Team Ministry survey free for a church?

The individual survey is free. The Group Edition for churches is listed, with a price not shown on the page we read as of October 2026. EmmauOS is free for a church's first 50 people and $40 a month for 150.

### Why does EmmauOS not name a dominant gift?

Because a score out of 25 from 5 statements is honest to about 2 points either way, and the gap between a first and second gift is usually inside that. EmmauOS shows every gift within 3 points of the highest as a lead band and talks about those together.

### What does EmmauOS add beyond a database of results?

A follow-up list with statuses, the person's own words and consent, two friends' confirmations, serving teams, placements checked at 30 and 90 days, Planning Center sync both ways, signals and insights, and an AI assistant that can work the list. Team Ministry's page describes a group database; it may offer more than it lists.
